Meet The Pet Care Specialists

Business OwnerMe in woods with A

I am very grateful to have the chance to build a successful business from my passion for pets!  I grew up with dogs, cats, fish and the occasional caged pet.  When I got involved with Great Pyrenees I realized I wanted my passion to be more than a hobby.  The experience I have gained through managing a multi-pet household as well as my activities related to Great Pyrenees and dogs in general is invaluable.

GPCAWhether I was spending time in the show ring, doing therapy dog visits to nursing homes or working with rescue – I loved it all.  I have raised puppies, adopted rescue dogs, dealt with health problems, behavior issues and multi-pet dynamics.  I am a member of my national breed club and I am active in many online communities.

I became passionate about pet sitting far before I became a business owner.  Many years ago I sought out a professional sitter for my own pets.  I knew my dogs would not be happy in a boarding situation and I wanted the security of someone coming to my home on a regular basis.  I also had pets who required medication and I wanted their regular routines preserved in my absence.  My deep appreciation of having a convenient and reliable pet sitter led to my intention to own my own business.  When my own pet sitter decided to retire and offered her clients to me, I jumped at the chance.  I couldn’t imagine my life without my pet sitter all these years and I want to offer that same peace of mind to my clients.

Me with both girls in LHIn addition to my pet experience I hold a BBA from Baker College and I have a start on my MBA.  I also taught pet first aid classes.

When I am not working, I can often be found at the park with my furkids enjoying their love of sniffing, swimming and all things related to being dogs.  I also love to cook, stay current on pet related news and spend time with friends.

And our experienced fantastic team:

In addition to pet sitting, Darlene also works two other jobs including teaching music.  She has been a music teacher in various capacities for over 17 years.

Pat with pooch

Pat works within the Detroit Public School system, but because of her active background, she sought out professional pet sitting for part time work and we are so glad she did.   In addition to her work as a teacher, she also did house and pet sitting for close friends and acquaintances and loved it.  As a lifelong pet owner, Patricia has shared her home with dogs, rabbits and pet ducks and she particularly loves staying active with dogs.  She currently shares her home with a special blend named Becka Louise and Becka ensures Patricia stays on their regular walking schedule.

When she isn’t working or out walking with Becka, she enjoys cooking, reading and watching/attending baseball games.  She even works seasonally down at Comerica Park.

Melissa is an avid animal lover and thus a natural fit for pet sitting. She was raised in a house with dogs most of her life and she and her husband became fur-parents to their Blue Tick Coonhound, Ernie. She grew an unexplained love for turtles as well and also shares her life with a Red-eared slider, Mr. Turtle and Desert Tortoise, Spike. She believes animals, no matter the species, provide humans the perspective of a simplistic life style, sharing unconditional love.

She obtained an Environmental Studies degree from the University of Michigan, Dearborn and in addition to working for us, she also works at The Henry Ford-Greenfield Village. In her free time, you’ll catch her enjoying the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Teresa bio pic 2

Teresa found she had a love of animals starting at an early age. She grew up with dogs, cats and other pets in the home, but she also spent time with chickens, goats, horses, and cows on her father’s ranch. She began her career in animals as a zookeeper for a wildlife park in Texas where she also volunteered at Citizens for Animal Protection and also the Houston Zoo and gained her veterinary paramedic certificate .  She then went on to become a veterinary surgical technician with the University of Arizona’s animal care unit.  After her move back to MI, she also gained an Associate degree in Accounting; however her love of animals drew her back in to seek out work with them again.  And we are so glad she did!

In her spare time you will find Teresa enjoying time with her family; both two-legged and four, reading fictional books and binge watching Netflix.

Jill picJill

Jill comes to us after a long career in private club service and management.  She has always loved pets and shared her life with dogs so she was very happy at the thought of a post-retirement job that would allow her to spend time with pets.  Having worked in an industry focused on detailed customer service but in a fast paced hectic atmosphere, it is a natural fit for her to bring that customer service background into the quieter and fun work of pet sitting! She currently shares her life with two dogs; Abby and Bella both of whom she rescued from Meet Your Pet at the Zoo events.  When she isn’t working, Jill enjoys travelling with her husband.
